+ WORLD HISTORY
This course introduces the student to the history of the world concentrating in Western Civilization and the impact Christianity has had on early civilizations. Students will understand how geography and the physical landscape played an important part in the everyday lives, problems and accomplishments of people, their role in developing social, economic, and political structures, as well as in the spreading of various cultures. Students will trace the rise of democratic ideas identifying the Christian influences and develop an understanding of the historical roots of current world issues.
Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in 9th or 8th grade Social Studies.
Eligibility: 10th grade
+ AP WORLD HISTORY
Students in this course must learn to view history thematically. The AP World History course is organized around five overarching themes that serve as threads throughout the course, helping students to relate what is particular about each time period or society to a "big picture" of history. The themes also provide a way to organize comparisons and analyze change and continuity over time. Additionally, virtually all study of history in this class is tied back to these themes by utilizing a "spice" acronym. Students are expected to take the AP World History exam in the spring.
Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in Introduction to Literature and Composition and 145 or higher combined score in Critical Reading, Writing and Math (no appeals permitted)

+ U.S. HISTORY
U.S. History is a topical study of American history from the colonial period through the 20th century. The course focuses on the nature of change, continuity, conflict and consensus as forces in our society. Major topics covered are the Revolution, the Constitutional period, western settlement, Civil War and Reconstruction, industrialism, global involvement, and recent political and social movements of the post war era.
Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in World History (Honors or CP).
Eligibility: 11th grade
+ AP U.S. HISTORY
This class is designed to provide the student with analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials of U.S. History. Students learn to assess historical materials and develop skills necessary to arrive at conclusions on the basis of an informed judgment. Students use books, simulations, projects, research, and the Bible. Students are expected to take the Advanced Placement exam in May. Prerequisite: B or higher in previous history and English classes, and teacher recommendation
PSAT Score Requirement: 150 or higher combined score in Critical Reading, Writing and Math (an appeal may be made with that score being 144 or higher)

+ U.S. GOVERNMENT
(1 Semester) This course is an analytical presentation of the government, and programs and politics in the United States. It includes the study of general concepts used to interpret U.S. policies in the United States and in foreign countries, with analyses of specific examples. Students are introduced to the various institutions, groups, beliefs and ideas that comprise the U.S. political scene, helping them establish their own ideas of government policy and the use of the Constitution.
Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in U.S. History (AP, Honors or CP).
Eligibility: 12th grade
+ AP GOVERNMENT
This course provides students with an analytical perspective on government and politics in the United States. Students will gain an understanding of typical patterns of political processes and behavior and their consequences (including the components of political behavior, the principles used to explain and justify various government structures and procedures, and the political effects of these structures and procedures). Students will analyze and interpret basic data relevant to the U.S. Government and politics. Students are expected to take the AP Government and Politics exam in the spring.
Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in U.S. History, in English, and teacher recommendation.
PSAT Score Requirement: 158 or higher combined score in Critical Reading, Writing and Math (an appeal may be made with that score being 151 or higher)

+ AG GOVERNMENT AND POLICY
(1 Semester) In this course, students will pursue a deeper understanding of the institutions of American government. They will conduct an in-depth study of the system of government in the world today and analyze the life and changing interpretations of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the current state of the legislative, executive and judiciary branches of government. An emphasis is placed on analyzing the relationship among federal, state, and local governments and their relationship to agriculture and agribusiness. This course will create civic literacy as students prepare to vote, participate in community activities and assume the responsibility of citizenship.
Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in U.S. History.

+ ECONOMICS
(1 Semester) Economics is taught in two parts - micro and macroeconomics. In this class students pay close attention to national income, GDP and economic growth, inflation, unemployment, fiscal and monetary policy, and international trade. By taking this course students are expected to develop an economic perspective of the world and understand and articulate major economic concepts.
Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in U.S. History.
Eligibility: 12th grade
+ AP MICROECONOMICS
(1 Semester) The purpose of AP Microeconomics is to give students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the functions of individual decision makers, both consumers and producers, within the economic system. The course places primary emphasis on the nature and functions of product markets and includes the study of factor markets and the role of government in promoting greater efficiency and equity in the economy. Students are expected to take the AP Microeconomics exam in the spring.
Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in U.S. History, in English, and teacher recommendation.
PSAT Score Requirement: 106 or higher combined score in Critical Reading and Math (an appeal may be made with that score being 102 or higher)

+ AG BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS
(1 Semester) This course is designed for advanced study of agriculture business opportunities and economics for college bound students with an interest in agriculture. Through the course, students will understand and apply basic economic principals as they relate to individual consumers, production agriculture, and agri-business management. Life skills such as resumes, job applications, interview skills, and college and scholarship applications are included. The students will develop a "business" that will produce, package, determine prices, and market their products. Students will keep accurate records of expenses, receipts, and profit/losses. At the conclusion of the course, profits are split equitably among all participants.
Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in U.S. History.
