iPad Program FAQs

  • This generation of students has grown up with computers and they’re at home in a world where they get their information instantly online. This is good preparation for what may be expected when students enter college. Students must be taught to be good digital citizens, to use the resources available to them responsibly and to always keep Christ as our moral compass in the use of such technology.

  • Our vision is to be a premier school, which includes being on the cutting edge of new technology. Two years after the introduction of the iPad, BCHS began issuing eBooks and other online library resources through student iPads. Teachers and students may take full advantage of the technology and services available to them with their iPads, from connecting to AppleTVs, for presentations, using creative apps on the devices for those presentations and collaborating with other students for various projects. iPads have proven to be a very reliable hardware platform for students and teachers in both services and design.

  • Beside the physical advantage of using a digital device instead of traditional heavy textbooks, iPads are less expensive in the long run as compared to traditional media. Although the majority of curriculum is available digitally, publishers are still transitioning away from traditional media to digital content and delivery systems. With those growing digital sources, iPads allow hands-on access to selected online websites that our students can use for research in their classes.

  • Many students find that taking class notes using the iPad can easily organize their notes for later reference when studying. Teachers often provide digital lectures to their students allowing students to follow along in the lecture 'live' on the devices. So that when teachers edit their lecture notes or math problems or other subjects on the teacher's device, its automatically reflected on the student's device as well. Assignments shared by teachers no longer need to be printed, but from the beginning to the end may remain completely digital, including markups, comments, and grades.

  • The technology fee that is collected each year from parents is partially used to pay for the devices that students use, but also for some eBooks that are required for specific classes as well as technology services that students use in class.

  • Using a combination of Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Internet content filtering systems, all iPads are managed and monitored 24/7. This level of management provides the ability to restrict which apps are permitted to be installed by students, as well as deploying new or critical apps when necessary. Since the device is a school issued device intended for educational purposes, all Internet content standards for filtering also apply to these devices, so that no matter where the student accesses the Internet, it will be filtered through BCHS content filters.

  • Only school issued devices will be permitted. Students are not permitted to use their own devices for several reasons covered in the BCHS Acceptable Use Policy for School Technology.

  • BCHS iPads may not be repaired by anyone except through the BCHS IT Services Department. No third-party repairs are permitted, including the Apple Store. Doing so, violates the BCHS Acceptable Use Policy and the AppleCare warranty agreement. In addition, if the warranty is void for any reason, the student will be financially responsible for the full replacement value of the device. If an iPad needs to be repaired, students are required to report the issue to the BCHS IT Services Help Desk where students will receive a replacement device. In some cases, there may be a repair fee associated with the incident.

  • In the unfortunate event that the device is lost or stolen, the BCHS Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) details the steps the student must follow. The student is to report the incident immediately to the IT Services Dept. If the device cannot be located, the student is financially responsible for the replacement of the device. To avoid expensive replacement costs for a stolen device, a copy of the police report is required. Otherwise, replacement fees are calculated based on the full value of the replacement cost of the device.

  • Students will be required to purchase digital textbooks for the iPad for some classes. These eBooks will be used for the classes the students take during the school year. BCHS provides the apps necessary for each student that they can use to install any needed eBooks. eBooks may need to be purchased through one or more of these apps, requiring the purchase of textbook eBooks through those services. BCHS will provide a list of all eBooks needed to purchase for each class, as well as a full list of eBooks provided by BCHS.

  • BCHS strongly believes in the educational value of technology and recognizes its potential to support curriculum. The school network and Internet access are provided for school-related purposes to staff and students who agree to abide by the BCHS Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for School Technology and Internet access.
