+ SPANISH 1
In Spanish 1, the students learn to comprehend, speak, read, and write in Spanish. Students focus on the present tense as well as learn advanced structures such as indirect and direct pronoun formation, reflexive verbs, correct placement of nouns and their modifiers. The goal is to achieve mastery of the given vocabulary, as well as being able to read beginning literature and write with ease and fluency. The class also focuses on Hispanic culture through books and lessons in the target language.
Prerequisite: Completion of English/Language Arts with a grade of C or better the previous year.
Eligibility: 9th-11th grades
+ SPANISH 2
Spanish 2 is a course that is based on the belief that the purpose of learning Spanish is to communicate with the people who speak it and to understand their culture. We teach from the Standards for Foreign Language Learning by providing the 5 Cās: (1) Communication: To communicate in languages other than English (2) Culture: To gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures (3) Connections: To connect with other disciplines and acquire information (4) Comparisons: To gain insight into the nature of language and culture (5) Communities: To participate in multilingual communities at home and around the world. The student will review the vocabulary and concepts taught in Spanish 1 at the beginning of Spanish 2. This year the student will be given additional vocabulary, more speaking and listening, reading and more advanced grammar appropriate for this level.
Prerequisite: C or better in Spanish 1 (high school) or demonstrate an ability to speak, read and write Spanish at a Spanish 1 level.
Eligibility: 10th-12th grades
+ SPANISH 3
Spanish 3 involves review of many grammatical concepts learned in Spanish 1 and 2. It emphasizes the subjunctive mood. Students will also learn to use future mood, conditional mood and compound verbs. Chapters from My Spanish Software Level 3: 30-35 will be covered first semester and 37-40 will be covered second semester. The class is conducted in Spanish. Students are expected to interact in Spanish every day, whether reading, writing, speaking and/or presenting. Homework is given daily. The course seeks to integrate the Christian faith and it is expected that students to be open to interact about God and His Word.

+ SPANISH 3 (H)
The purpose of the course is to develop furthermore the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing to a pre-advanced level. The course will cover material from My Spanish Software: Level 3, Level 4 and Pre-AP. This is an intense course covering the knowledge acquired during Spanish 1 and 2. Students are expected to have a high proficiency in Spanish. Students will also develop critical thinking skills through projects, reading assignments and class discussions. Cultural knowledge will be further developed through current events assignments and discussions as well as reading comprehension activities. Spanish is the primary language spoken in this course by both the instructor and the students. The course will also serve as an introduction to AP Spanish.

+ SPANISH 4 - DUAL ENROLLMENT
The AP Spanish Language and Culture course is a rigorous course taught exclusively in Spanish that requires students to improve their proficiency across the three modes of communication. The course focuses on the integration of authentic resources including online print, audio, and audiovisual resources, as well as traditional print resources that include literature, essays, and magazine and newspaper articles with the goal of providing a rich, diverse learning experience. Students communicate using advanced vocabulary and linguistic structures as they build proficiency in all modes of communication toward the advanced level.
Prerequisites: A in Spanish 3, teacher recommendation
Eligibility: 12th grade
+ AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE 1
Fundamentals of American Sign Language (ASL) introduces the historical development of ASL and deaf culture, basic vocabulary and grammatical structure, techniques of signing, and non-verbal aspects of ASL. Outside assignments/activities, final videotape dialogue, and interaction with deaf people are significant components of this course. Transferable UC, CSU and some private colleges. It is suggested that students check with the receiving institution.

+ AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE 2
Fundamentals of American Sign Language 2 (ASL 2) revolves around major language functions such as asking for and giving directions, making requests, attributing qualities to others, and talking about routines. Through this functional approach, the language learned is the language used in everyday conversations. By learning language functions in interactive contexts, students also develop conversational skills in confirming and correcting information, expressing degrees of uncertainty, and asking for clarification. Students develop the understanding of translating from English into ASL structure. Outside assignments/activities, dialogue, storytelling, learning deaf history/culture and interaction with deaf people are significant components of the course.
Prerequisite: C or better in the second semester of American Sign Language 1

+ AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE 3
Advanced American Sign Language (ASL 3) emphasizes advanced conversational fluency in ASL, followed by intensive work on comprehensive skills and grammatical structure. Instruction includes conceptual accuracy and translation of English sentences into ASL. Discussion of various aspects of American deaf culture and dynamics of the deaf community complete the study.

+ AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE 4 (H)
Advanced American Sign Language (ASL 4) emphasizes advanced conversational fluency in ASL, followed by intensive work on comprehensive skills and grammatical structure. Instruction includes conceptual accuracy and translation of English sentences into ASL. Discussion of various aspects of American deaf culture and dynamics of the deaf community complete the study.
